Feeding Directions
Mixing Directions: Please see the following table for specific feeding instructions. Mix 4 ounces* of milk replacer powder into 2 cups (16 fluid ounces) of warm (115–120°F) water and mix thoroughly with a wire whisk. *Enclosed scoop holds approximately 4 ounces of dry powder. Weigh powder to ensure accuracy. Mixing Tip: the ratio is 1 part powder to 2 parts water by volume.
Feeding Directions (Day 2 to Weaning): Feed the reconstituted Sav-A-Lamb milk replacer solution at about 100°F if feeding by bottle. Check temperature of milk replacer solution before feeding to avoid scalding. If feeding free choice, replace the milk replacer solution often to help prevent spoilage. Mix and provide fresh solution daily.
Water and Solid Feeds: Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Begin offering small amounts of high-quality creep feed at about 1 week of age. Provide access to high-quality hay or pasture at about 3 weeks of age.
Weaning: Most lambs can be weaned from milk replacer at 30–45 days when the lamb is healthy, eating hay and grain daily, and has tripled its birthweight.
Directions for Use as a Dry Powder Supplement:
Sav-A-Lam milk replacer may be top-dressed or mixed into grain, dry starter feed, or creep feed to encourage feed intake during the weaning period for lambs or to provide supplemental nutrients to stressed or under-conditioned sheep. Mix 2 dry ounces (approximately 1/2 enclosed scoop) into 1 pound of dry feed daily. Discard any unconsumed dry feed each day to help prevent spoilage.
